TESSA WAS ADOPTED DECEMBER 6, 2006!
UPDATE December 12, 2006
Just wanted to let you know that we love Tessa so much. She is the greatest little dog. Wonderful in all ways and she is our best friend and constant companion. I couldn't have found a dog I could love more than this one. Thank you for your help in matching us together for our sake and Tessa's sake.
TESSA'S STORY:
Tessa is a darling little 8-pound, 8-year-old Shih Tzu. The average lifespan of a Shih Tzu can easily be 15 - 16 years. Tessa is very lovable and affectionate, adores being held and carried around, sitting on laps and sleeping in bed with her humans. She lived all of her previous life with an elderly person so she is used to somebody being home most of the time. She is fine when being left home alone for extended periods but is not used to it on a daily basis.
Tessa gets along great with other dogs. She could care less about cats. She is a little doll baby who wants to be held, carried around, snuggled and SPOILED ROTTEN!
Tessa had started regurgitating several times daily and was otherwise acting perfectly fine. In order to diagnose her problem, she was seen by an internist who did extensive blood work, fluoroscopy (where barium is sent down the esophagus), endoscopy (scoping of the stomach and upper intestines), biopsies and testing for Addison's Disease. All of her tests came back not just normal, but according to the internist "grossly normal". Finally a biopsy of her stomach showed helicobacter infection. This is very simply treated with antibiotics and Pepto Bismol taken twice a day for 2 weeks, which she takes easily in her food. But with $1500 worth of testing, at least we know Tessa is a very healthy dog!
Tessa is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, microchipped and spayed. She has been professionally groomed and does require periodic professional grooming.
