Good blood flow is accomplished by proper mechanics of the hoof
with a ground parallel coffin bone.  Optimum mechanics is best achieved barefoot.  

There are antiquated concepts about how a hoof functions.  The hoof wall is not the only section weight bearing.  The whole hoof does: the frog and the sole and the hoof wall share equal amounts.  There is an epidemic of foundered and navicular horses.  Neither condition should ever happen with just a few life-style changes.  

A major artery runs along the inner edge of the whole coffin bone.  An unparallel coffin bone only means an increase of pressure on the artery and even the possibility of crushing the artery.  The laminae and sole can also be damaged. 

Twenty years of research by a vet in Europe has clarified many myths.  One is that navicular syndrome has nothing to do with the navicular bone.
