Home Back

July is of course the month with the most color.  Almost every day of the month I can pick a spectacular bouquet of flowers.  The Columbine, Lupine, Iris, Clustered Bellflower, Creeping Baby's Breath, Painted Daisy, Oriental Poppy, Dianthus, Jacob's Ladder, Spiderwort, Mallow, Peony, Peach-Leafed Bellflower, Cranesbill, Salvia, and Yarrow continue to bloom.  New plants in early July are Blue Mallow, Foxglove, Shasta Daisy, Campanula, Pincushion Flower, Roses, Delphinium, Monkshood, Lavender, Gaillardia, Harebells, and Coreopsis.  In mid to late July  we start to see Flax, some of the Garden Phloxes, Soapwort, Cupid's Dart, and SedumOriental Lilies and Daylilies start to bloom in July also. I have a separate page with pictures and blooming charts for the lilies.

Blue Mallow (Malva sylvestris):  Grows to 36" tall, Full Sun, Prefers well-drained fertile soil. Hollyhock-like blooms on upright plants.  Personal note:  actually more of a purple than blue color, but bloomed for over 6 wks and even survived several early frosts. In this zone the plant is not perennial but will seed for following year.  Always picked as a favorite by visitors to the garden.
