CATALINA 22 PREPARATION FOR TRAVELING
HAUL OUT -
a)
Lower trailer into water far enough to allow the boat to float over the
bunk boards.
b) Be sure that you have good keel guides on trailer to guide the boat to
the center of the trailer.
c) Remove the rudder and run the gas out of the motor.
d) Attach the winch to the bow eye and pull the boat all the way to the bow
anchor point.
e) Pull the trailer out slowly, making sure that the keel is inside the keel
guides
f) Lower the keel to its resting position so there is no weight on the keel
cable.
MAST LOWERING AND SECURING -
a) Park the trailer on a level surface with enough room behind the trailer to leave room for the mast to be lowered.
b)
Disconnect the main sheet block from the traveler and secure the main
sheet to the back end of the boom.
c)
Remove the main luff from the mast if you have slugs and secure the main
to the boom or remove completely. (your choice)
d) Detach the boom vang, remove the boom and stow it below.
e)
Put the mast crutch in the rudder gudgeons if you have one.
f) Disconnect the forward lowers by removing the fast pens (recommended) or
unscrew the turnbuckles if you do not have fast pens.
g) Remove the fast pen from the forestay.
h) Put one person on the forestay to help control the lowering, one person
just behind the mast to start the lowering and help control the fall and one
person in the cockpit to catch the mast when it gets to his reach.
i) Push the mast backward, pivoting on the mast step, until it rests in the
mast crutch.
SECURING THE BOAT FOR TRAVEL -
a)
Lower the mast crutch and slide the mast forward to rest the lower end of
the mast on the bow pulpit.
b) Remove the spar fly and stow below.
c) Secure the mast to the bow pulpit and rest the remainder on the cabin top
if you do not have a crutch.
d) Secure all of the loose shrouds and stays.
e) Secure the mast to the cabin top for traveling.
f)
Remove the motor and stow below.
g) Secure safety lines from the aft cleats of the boat to the trailer frame
for safety purposes.
You
are now ready to travel so make sure the trailer is secure, your lights are
connected and working and your safety chains are attached.
Upon arrival at your destination, reverse the order of the above instructions to prepare our boat for the water.
