Introduction to Pekingese

One might wonder where do Pekingese comes from. Well, it is not from Tibet or India, but it is from China. The Pekingese is truly an "imperial dog". It can be found as early as 2000 B.C. Many worshipped the Pekingese in those days. Some people believed that Pekingese is the companion of the Chinese emperor. These Pekingese dogs will accompany the emperor to the Chamber of Ceremonials on the occasion of State. There are legends that say that Pekingese is a cross between the lion and the Marmoset monkey. To this day, the pekingese often bears the face of the monkey and has the characteristic of the lion - the regal bearing and profuse mane. According to Beverly Pisano, author of the Pekingese book, Pekingese can be found in many Chinese porcelains, the Bishop collection of jade and the Pierpont Morgan Collections. Then, In 1860, four small pekingese were presented to Queen Victoria. In 1898, the first Pekingese came to America. They were admitted to the AKC registry in 1906, and to show classification in 1907. Pekingese are lovable and bold. They don't bark just for the sake of barking, meaning they mostly bark at strangers. However, if they get to know the strangers, they will make friends. Pekingese can be rather stubborn sometimes. But proper training can minimize that.
