Home Where is Dunbar? The Early Days 40's, 50's, 60's (1) Pay Day Today A Dunbar Poem

Pay Day

The following shows a pay envelope issued to my grandfather in 1943.   Wages were paid in cash which was included inside of the envelope.  Wages during the middle of World War II had increased significantly from the previous decade.   Notice the "Victory Tax" deduction on the front of the envelope.  If anyone has any information on this please e-mail me at gary@gvk.us .

Note:  The Stonega Coke and Coal Company later became known as Westmoreland Coal Company.
