THE AA PREAMBLE
Alcoholics Anonymous

is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, Published in 1951. Bill W's experiences with the Twelve Steps after fifteen years of sobriety, plus a commentary on the Twelve Traditions by the man who wrote them.

1ST STEP God, Creative Intelligence, Universal Mind, Spirit of Nature or Spirit of the Universe my name is ______, And I'm a real alcoholic ... and I need your help today.
(pg. 10-2, 46, & Chp 3 BB)

2nd STEP God, I'm standing at the turning point right now. Give me your protection and care as I abandon myself to you and give up my old ways and my old ideas just for today.
  (p. 59 BB)

3rd STEP "God, I offer myself to Thee— to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life . May I do Thy will always!"
(p. 63 BB)
God, Take my will and my life. Guide me in my recovery. Show me how to live.
( p. 59 BB)

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous stands as today as the primary text for AA
and is the foundation for
most other 12 step programs. Reading or listening to this book is a MUST for anyone with any type of addiction!
In my opinion. I know it works for me and I am truly Grateful for that. I am still teachable today, if I choose to be.

Is sobriety all that we are to expect of a spiritual awakening?
No, sobriety is only a bare beginning; it is only the first gift of the first awakening. If more gifts are to be received, our awakening has to go on. As it does go on, we find that bit by bit we can discard the old life - the one that did not work - for a new life that can and does work under any conditions whatever

AM I CO-DEPENDENT ?

 Humility
Humility is the state of being humble. A humble person is generally thought to be unpretentious and modest: someone who does not think that he or she is better or more important than others. Humility is not to be confused with humiliation, which is the act of making someone else feel ashamed, and is something completely different.

THERE IS A POWER FOR GOOD,AND YOU CAN UTILIZE IT IN YOUR LIFE.

Hi Welcome to My World!!
My name is Donna S.
I am an Alcoholic/Addict/Al_Anon/S.I.
I have pages on 12 Step Recovery, Abuse, Health,
Stories, plus some things that I enjoy in life today.
There are links to other sites I really enjoy and get
a lot insight out of that I would like to share with you.
It is  only through the Grace of God, the rooms of 12 step Recovery (
f2f & online), my Sponsor's ( I had
to find a new sponsor in 2005 due to the passing of my other sponsor, God Rest Her Soul)
,my network, The
Big Book ,working the Steps, reading  literature
  & working with others ,

( I am working with 3 sponcees at this time 06)

to the best of my ability that I am learning
that I am a Good Person and
Just for Today I don't have to pick up that first
drink or drug or do anything that harms me in
any way to live my life. I never Imagined how wonderful I could feel and to see the beauty in Life
and in people. I am learning it is ok to have feelings
and to express them, as long as I don't hurt anyone & to laugh and cry and not be ashamed. As long as I try to keep an open mind today and to work
at getting better to the best of my ability

I Thank God for 2 wonderful sons & my husband who stuck around through all my ups & downs. They have showed me what unconditional love is. It took me many years in recovery to finally see this. As they say some are sicker than others. I am
truly Blessed and  very Grateful today.

I
I can only keep what I have by giving it away.
So use  what you need and pass on the rest!!

What A.A. Does Not Do

Dry Drunk Syndrome
A look at what a Dry Drunk is

A person who possesses true peace is not one whose life is without problems and turmoil but is rather a person who has peace in spite of it.

The anniversary of Bill W's death is on  January 24th............
read his obituary as printed in the New York Times on 26.01.71

Did you know that Bill Wilson was recognized as one of the
Top 100 Most Influential People
of the 20th Century by Time Magazine?

Dr. Bob's Home

Interpretation from:
"The Beginning of Humility"

"There are few absolutes inherent in
the Twelve Steps.
Most Steps are open to interpretation,
based on the experience and outlook of the individual.  "Consequently,
the individual is free to start the Steps at whatever
point he can, or will.

God, as we understand Him, may be defined as a 'Power greater...' or the Higher Power.
For thousands of members, in the A.A. group itself has been a  'Higher Power' in the beginning.
c. 1967, As Bill Sees It, page 191

Sponsorship

Sponsors are AA members who are living the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions to the best of their ability. They are willing to share their recovery with other members of the Fellowship and are committed to abstinence.

We ask a sponsor to help us through our program of recovery on all three levels: physical, emotional and spiritual. By working with other members of AA and sharing their experience, strength and hope, sponsors continually renew and reaffirm their own recovery. Sponsors share their program up to the level of their own experience.

Ours is a program of attraction: find a sponsor who has what you want, and ask that person how he or she is achieving it. A member may work with more than one sponsor and may change sponsors at will.

The Teaching is Never Over

Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your
faults to Him and to your fellows. Clear away the wreckage
of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us.
We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit,
and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge
the Road of Happy Destiny.
May God bless you and keep you-until then.

  Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 164

on page 44 in the second paragraph the book told us that we have only two alternatives: 1) to be doomed an alcoholic death? or 2) to live on a spiritual basis.

So, if your choice is to live on a spiritual basis, rest assured that not only is a spiritual awakening possible, it is a guarantee, provided we keep an open mind and take the Steps as described in this book.

Please consult with your sponsor or counselor before doing the Steps

Barefoots World
When do we start working the Steps?
When Do You Want to Get Well?

"Dear God, please set aside everything I think I know [about myself, my disease, the Big Book, the 12 Steps, the Program, the Fellowship, the people in the fellowship, and all spiritual terms, and especially about you God] so I may have an open mind and a new experience [with all these things]. Please help me see the Truth. Amen."

"The Set-Aside Prayer" (sometimes referred to as the "Lay-Aside Prayer"), as stated here, is not word-for-word stated in the Big Book; but statements and ideas that have inspired the prayer can be found in the Big Book on the pages given below and are highlighted in bold font. The words used above, excluding those in the brackets, comprise the prayer in its purest form. Feel free to adapt or modify the bracketed words as needed. Our spiritual advisors have found that this prayer seems to have a profound affect when used while taking someone through Steps 1 and 2 out of the Big Book.

Index to Working The Steps

From "Barefoot" Bill L.

On page 64, the Big Book says, "When the spiritual malady is overcome,
we straighten out mentally and physically.
So, let's take a look at a third factor involved in the 1st Step -
the spiritual malady or as the 1st Step says, ?
...that our lives had become unmanageable"

The  Steps
WILL set you FREE
If you have an honest desire to change.
Speaking for myself that is. I recently went through the Steps again (05') with my new sponsor and it is amazing  how free I feel today.
I know also that I only have today , a daily reprieve. I can not use yesterday's recovery today. I have to practice these principles in all my affairs just for today. I have to be self-disciplined to maintain my clean and sober life-style.
I'm simply sharing my experience and my opinion in hopes that it may by chance help another. I believe it is my obligation to pass on what has been so freely given to me.

I am going out to visit a friend, who I met on here 7 years ago, She is going to take me to a Big Book Step Study, something we do not have in this area of  NJ. So I hope to learn something new and be able to bring it back and share it here at the Big Book meeting I attend.. I am so excited to go see her as I have not seen her in a few years.

When you start the day with quiet meditation, you create a consciousness of serenity and peace. At anytime during the day you can bring your mind back to this moment.

When things get hectic or stressful, I bring my awareness back to the peace that I create now.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast."  Ephesians 2:8,9
