Ornaments
The kids can create decorations for your tree!

Your children will love making these ornaments for the Christmas tree! They're easy and fun, and they'll keep the kids busy while you're wrapping presents.
1. Buy Styrofoam balls in lots of different sizes at a craft store.
2. Place different-colored tempera paints on paper plates. Add a few drops of dish soap to the paint to help it stick to the balls.
3. Roll the balls in the paint until they are completely covered. Set them on wax paper to dry. Or have your children roll the balls in glue instead of paint and then sprinkle on glitter before the glue dries. (Some craft glues come with glitter already mixed in.)
4. Write names on the larger balls with a glue squeeze bottle, and add more glitter.
5. Deck the tree with your new ornaments. To hang them on the tree, buy ornament hooks and stick one end into the ball. Tie string to the other end and hang it from a branch. Or, poke one end of a pipe cleaner into an ornament, and twist the other end into a hook.
6. Your child can also give these decorations as special Christmas gifts to a good friend or a favorite relative.

Popcorn Snowman

Materials:
•15 cups popped popcorn
•2 - 10 oz. pkgs. marshmallows
•pretzel sticks
•raisins
•candy corn
•mini jawbreakers
•gumdrops or red hots
•fruit leather or fruit by the foot
Directions:
Put the popcorn in your largest mixing bowl and set aside. Melt the butter in a non-stick saucepan over medium to low heat Add all the marshmallows, stirring continually with a wooden spoon until they're completely melted. Pour the mixture over the popcorn and stir to coat evenly. As soon as the marshmallow is cool enough to touch, rub a little butter in your hands and make popcorn balls (about one cup of popcorn per ball). Build and decorate your snowmen on a sheet of waxed paper. For each one, stack three popcorn balls atop each other. Push pretzel stick arms into the sides the middle popcorn ball. Add raisins for eyes and a candy corn for a nose. Arrange a row of mini jawbreakers into a broad grin. For buttons on the snowman's chest, use gumdrops or red hots. If your popcorn balls aren't sticky enough to hold the decorations, mix up a small batch of stiff white icing (add water, a few drops at a time, to 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar and stir until smooth) and use it to glue the candy in place. For snowmen's scarves, cut rectangles out of fruit leather and fringe the ends and wrap around neck.
Hints, Tips and Friendly Advice:
•Depending on age of the kids, an adult may want to supervise melting of butter and marshmallows.

Frosted Candle Jar
These are fun for the little ones (6 and over) to make...
Wash and dry baby food jars thoroughly, removing any labels or glue residue. Now your child can use various colors of nail polish to paint designs on the outside of each jar. Once the design is dry, brush on a top coat of clear polish. While it is still tacky, sprinkle it with table salt until covered. Let it dry completely, then gently brush away loose salt. Finally, place a votive candle in each jar.

Terra Cotta Christmas Tree
Supplies
3 terra cotta plant pots graduated from large to small
green paint
snow textured paint
beads, sequins or other simialaritems
craft glue or a hot glue gun
Directions
paint the terra cotta pots green and let dry put glue inside the rim of the medium and small pot. stack (upside-down) the medium pot on the large pot and the small pot on the medium pot to form "tree" using the textured snow paint dab snow on the tree glue beads and sequins to tree for ornaments

CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT
Make a Christmas tree out of green construction glued on to tag board, bristol board or box carton (will make it a little sturdier). Decorate with coloured popcorn (shake in Tempera), glue on Fruit Loops, macaroni, sprinkles, etc. Punch hole in top for string.

Cut out large red stocking from construction paper. To decorate: use cotton balls, coloured popcorn, cereal, glitter, etc..

MACARONI WREATH
Cut a hole in the middle of a paper plate. Glue different shapes of macaroni onto ring. Spray with gold or green spray paint and hang.

TUBE SANTA
Use toilet paper roll. Cover with paper that has been cut to size and glue in place. Have children draw on eyes, nose and mouth. Cut triangle hat, glue on, glue cotton balls on hat and beard. Punch hole in top of hat.

EGG CUP ORNAMENTS
Use empty egg carton. Cut into 12 sections. Paint on glue, sprinkle with sparkles. Punch hole in top and insert pipe cleaner, fasten inside.

PAPER PLATE WREATH
Cut out center of large paper plate: Give child several squares of green tissue paper. Paint glue all over plate. Wrinkle up squares and cover whole plate. Glue on red crepe paper bow. Very attractive! (or may use red ribbon).

Draw tree on meat tray. Have children decorate it with cereal, sprinkle etc. Punch hole on top.

ORNAMENTS
A triange of green construction paper, punched with a paper punch and backed with red tissue paper, simple and attractive. Hang with string, yarn, or wire.
Cut a diamond shape from heavy paper on cardboard. Children can glue on macaroni or shells. Spray with gold paint - while wet, sprinkle with glitter. Punch hole when dry.

COTTAGE CHEESE OR YOGURT LID ORNAMENT
Paste a variety of dry cerals to both sides of a cottage cheese or yogurt lid. Punch a hole, using string or wire and as an ornament on tree.

Penguin Ornament
Here is a cute Penguin Ornament I created..
And the directions to make it:
Supplies:
fat popsicle craft stick
2 oval large woodsies
2 oval small woodsies
black and white paint
old knit glove --use finger tip for hat, and cut strip off palm for the scarf small bell or pom pom for tip of the hat.
tree hanger
black marker pen.
Paint both sides of the woodsies black, and one side of the popsicle stick black. on the other side pencil in a small circle for the face, and an elongated oval--position the oval so that one whole long side is right at the edge of the stick. on the opposite edge there should be a small area that will be black..see thepicture. paint the oval and circle white, and the rest of the stick black. When dry glue one large woodsie to the back side of the popsicle stick and one to the front..positioning them like the wings or arms of the penguin. Do the same with the 2 small ones for the feet. The back wing and the back foot should be on the same side of the penguin..the side that has the white edge. with the parker make two black dot eyes and a blk > nose. tie the knit scarf around the neck, and secure with glue. Cut the fingertip off the glove and roll the edge..then glue on the top of the stick.
Add a pom pom or small bell to the top..and a wire tree hanger.

Gingerbread men/women
You can make gingerbread men out of sandpaper; just cut them out and add 'icing' with white fabric paint, or cut clothes out of fabric and glue them on. Punch a hole in them and hang them on the tree, use for gift tags, or make a bunch and use as a garland.
