Dough Recipes


BAKER'S CLAY
1 c.flour
1 c. salt
l/2 c. water
Mix together with fingers in a big bowl If clay feels too stiff, add a little more water. Knead for 5 minutes. Mold objects. Bake on cookie sheet in 350 degree oven for an hour. Test for doneness with a toothpick. When object is cooled, paint with tempera and glaze with clear plastic spray


BREAD MODELING DOUGH
Remove crusts from several slices of white bread. Break up bread into small pieces and mix with white glue. Add a few drops of lemon juice. Mix until consistency of clay. Store in plastic bag in refrigerator

COLORING MODELING DOUGH
When coloring home-made modeling dough, use tempera paint instead of food coloring for brighter colors

CORNSTARCH BAKING DOUGH
1 c. cornstarch
2 c. baking soda
1-1/4 c. water
Combine and mix. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. This will thicken to the consistency of mashed potatoes. Store In refrigerator.

CINNAMON ORNAMENT DOUGH
3/4 c.applesauce
1 c. cinnamon
Mix to form a stiff dough. Roll out to 1/4 in thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Make hole for ribbon. Put on rack to dry. Let air dry for several days, turning occasionally. Makes 12.

CINNAMON ORNAMENT DOUGH I
3/4 c. applesauce
1 c. cinnamon
Mix well. Add 1 T. tacky glue and 1 T. orris root (fixatve to enhance cinnamon scent longer) when mixture is well blended, roll out on a cinnamon dusted countertop and cut out desired shapes. Place on cookie sheet and baKe for one hour at 150 degrees.

GINGERBREAD DOUGH FOR CRAFTS
3 T. shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 t. baking soda
3/4 cup water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 t. of cloves, ginger and cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat shortening and sugar together untill light and fluffy, stir in molasses.
Sift the dry ingredients together.
Stir dry ingredient into shortening mixture in 3 parts alternating with a 1/4 cup of water each time. Dough will be stiff.
Refrigerate overnight.
Cut dough into 3 pieces. Knead to warm dough slightly, then roll each piece out about 1/4 inch thick. Cut cookie out with a gingerbread pattern of your choice.
Use a drinking straw to punch hole in center if ornament will be hanging.
Plae cookies on cookie sheet and bake 20 minutes, turn oven off anl let cool in oven. Remove from cookie sheet and place on rack to dry for about 3 days to totally harden.
These cookies are purely for decorative purposes and not to be eaten. If you wish you can seal cookies with 3 coats of clear acrylic and decorate with colorful acrylic pains when dry.

ROSE PETAL DOUGH
1/2 c flour
1 T. salt
2 T.water
3 c crushed rose petals
Mix flour, salt and water to stiff dough. Mix crushed petals into dough without making it crumbly.
Shape into desired shapes
Dry for a few days.

GINGER BREAD MAN-RECIPE FOR LIFE
1 Heaping cup of encouragement
1 Heaping cup of encouragement
1 cup of melted compassion
2 cups of hope
1 cup of love
1 tablespoon of faith (it only takes a little)
2 large tablespoons attitude
Lots of hugs in assorted sizes
Cream encouragement and compassion together. Add hope, love, and faith. Mix thoroughly until smooth. Slowly add the unbeaten attitude. Batter should be firm but not unyielding. knead gently. Roll in hugs and cut out to the desired shape. Add stars for eyes and a kiss. Bake in a warm oven. Excellent when shared with a friend.
