TIPS FOR DIAMOND HEAD HIKE

Never hike alone.  Always bring your friends.
It's more fun.

Use sunscreen.  The sun is hot and plentiful in Hawaii.

Restrooms are only at the bottom of the trail.

Water fountains are only at the bottom of the trail,
so bring some water.

Stay on marked trails.  The grass on the side of the
trail grows very slow, and is easily damaged.

The trail starts inside the crater.   The trails on the
outer slopes are unsafe.

Do not discard trash on trail.  Don't spoil the view
for others.

There are no fees charged.  One of the few free
things in Hawaii.

Average temperature 75-80 degrees year round.
Dress cool.

Tennis shoes work fine.  Hike is moderate ability
and 1.5 miles roundtrip.

Hike roundtrip from start of trail approximately 2
hours.  Early morning and late afternoon, the sun
is the coolest.

City bus available in Waikiki to drop you off at
Diamond Head.  Bus #22 or #58 on Kuhio Avenue.
Ask driver to drop you off at Diamond Head.

Flashlight is recommended for the staircase through
the tunnel.

Bring insect/mosquito repellent.

Don't smoke on trail.  The grass and brush is very dry.

Park is open 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Hike to the summit can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Of course bring along your camera to capture the
spectacular views.
