The  HISTORY  of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. dates from November 12, 1922, when the first Sigma Gamma Rho chapter was organized at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven distinguished young teachers. The first three years of its existence were confined to organizing. Presently our organizations has well over 450  chapters  throughout the United States and other countries.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., is a nonprofit, collegiate organization with our focus on community service. Its purpose is expressed in its slogan "Greater Service, Greater Progress." This is the basis for all of the service projects-national and local- in which we participate.

Some of our  National Projects  are:
