"THE YEAR OF THE HORSE" SINEAD O'CONNOR

   O'Connor's move from Los Angeles back to London was probably the best thing
the Irish singer-songwriter could have done for her career in the United States,
because pop audiences will now tend to encounter her through her music rather
than her media outbursts. Her music carries the same passion and conviction of
her public remarks, but the music is framed with such sureness of craft and
depth of passion that it is hard not to be moved.  In this hourlong video drawn
from two European concerts last fall, director Sophie Muller eloquently captures
O'Connor's art. And O'Connor shows that she does have a sense of humor: The
video package is dedicated to the man who criticized her for not letting the
national anthem be played before one of her concerts last year in New Jersey:
