SINEAD GIVES UP CUSTODY OF TWO-YEAR-OLD GIRL AFTER BITTER BATTLE Steve Smith SINEAD O'CONNOR has surrendered custody of her two-year-old daughter Roisin to the child's father. The singer last night confirmed she had handed the toddler over to former boyfriend John Waters, a writer working for an Irish newspaper. Multi-millionaire O'Connor - who has had a string of hits including Nothing Compares 2U - said she was now taking time out to recover from the bitter custody fight. In faxed Press releases, she added: "I am not a bad mother. "That's not why I am giving up custody. "I've been a good mother to Roisin and John Waters accepts this." Her statement went on: "I will see our daughter at weekends and during school holidays." Only last month, London-based O'Connor, 32, threatened to sue Waters after he told police and social workers that she had mistreated Roisin. She was cleared by social services of neglecting the child and then claimed Waters had not paid a penny in maintenance. O'Connor has an 11-year-old son, Jake, from a previous marriage. She is currently understood to be seeking a house in Dublin so she can be closer to Roisin. Columnist Waters was unavailable for comment.
