"CONCERTO FOR THE LEFT HAND"

(Written by Maurice Ravel for a pianist
who lost one of his hands in World War I)
This hand that made the lives of men
Thrill to wide melodies of loveliness
			Is no more.
It rests in the dust beneath the flowers.
Its fingers shall not span the keys
			Nor their firm celerity
			Send tremors through a breast.
