Cape St. Mary's Bird Sanctuary is located on the southwestern tip of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland approximately 1.5 hour's drive from Holyrood. It is a beautiful and awesome sight which is surely a photographer's dream.

Just a short walk from the road lies Bird Rock, home to over
25 000 nesting pairs of birds. Many species of seabirds can be found there including:
  • Northern Gannetts
  • Murres
(Turres is the common name in Newfoundland)
  • Kittiwakes
  • Gulls
  • Guillemonts
  • Cormorants

The steep sea cliffs make an excellent lookout for viewing nesting sites of most of the above species. While taking in the view the sounds of thousands of seabirds echo off the cliffs in a musical creation that only Nature can compose. Graceful gannets soar both overhead and beneath as you take in the awesome site!
