Here you will find a brief history of all of Jeff and Phyliss Collins children, through the life of these children beats the souls of our present generation.
Ed Marby - Ed was the first child born to Phyllis and Ed Marby. Not much is know about Uncle Ed, but he grew up in Akron, AL and later as an adult moved to Columbus, OH. There he married Annie. They had one son, Ed Marby, Jr.
Lewis "Rab" Collins - Lewis was the second child, born on May 18th 1899. He was affectionally know as "Uncle Rab". He spent his childhood in Akron, AL. On February 7, 1931 he married Ruby Thomas. This couple were the proud parents of one child, Mazrene Collins Darby. In November, 1939, Lewis and his family moved to Birmingham, Al. where he worked in the Birmingham coal mines until his retirement. As stated early, Lewis was very devoted to Grandpa Jeff and took care of him during the later part of his life. Lewis departed his life on February 14, 1970.
Andrew Collins - Very, very little is known about Uncle Andrew, the third child of Jeff and Phyliss. At best guess, he was born at the turn of the century in 1900 or 1901. Andrew married Mary Seal. The exact time of his death if unknown. It is believed that he died at a young age.
Chris "Son" Collins - Chris Collins was the fourth child in the Jeff and Phyliss clan. He was born shortly after the turn of the century, on August 3, 1902. He met, fell in love and married Annie Collins. Became a farmer and a true businessman, Uncle Chris decided to create his own personal workforce. He and Annie bore seventeen children: Louis, Chris, Andrew, Willis, twins-Carl and Carline, Madison (M.P.), Glosoco, Amos (A.P.), Charles, Junnie, Roland, Leroy, twins-Annie Nell and Rosie Nell, Percy and Mary. Demonstrating his business savvy, Uncle Chris in 1944, purchased over 140 acres of land in Sawyervill, AL. That land is currently the home-site for his family today.
After the passing of Aunt Annie on May 7, 1952, Uncle Chris later married Mary Lee Micken, who was very instrumental in raising the younger children. Uncle Chris a devoted husband and father and businessman passed away on September 17, 1980
Alexander "Bo" Collins - Alexander was the fifth child, born on March 15, 1905. He spent all of his life in Akron, AL. He met and married Catherine Harris in April, 1937. This union produced six daughters and one son; Mary Ella, Alexander Jr., Will Nell, Ruby Lee, Dorothy Jean, Minnie Pearl, and Lois Ann. In addition to the children "Bo" had with Catherine, he had two older children, James and Mildred. Alexander was a hard working farmer, who did whatever it took to provide for his family. On March 7, 1957, Alexander was called to rest. Alexander was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grand children.
Johnny F. "Dee" Collins - Johnny F. was the sixth child born on April 10, 1908 in Akron, AL. The exact date of birth is not known. He attended Elmwood Elementary School and completed the sixth grade. Uncle Dee married his childhood sweetheart, Willie Mae Whitt. They had two children, John Andrew and Anita. Uncle Dee decided to move to the "big city" of Tuscaloosa, Al., where he found employment with Central Foundry. He worked there until he retired in 1969. Besides being a hard worker, Uncle Dee was a faithful member at Hunters Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and in his spare time he loved to hunt. Uncle Dee went to his maker on December 28, 1977. Today he has six grand children and a host of great-grandchildren.
Hagar Collins Prince - Hagar had the distinct honor of being the first born girl to Jeff and Phylliss. Hagar was the seventh child. She spent all of her life living in Akron, AL. Hagar married Anthony Prince. This union gave birth to nine children; Willie Louis, Mary, Nettie Marie, Dora, Matthew, Laura Sue, Annie Lee, Fannie Mae, and Mable. Aunt Hagar was born again & saved person. She attended Elwood AME Zion Church. Aunt Hagar departed her life in April 1958.
Annie Collins Littlepage - Annie was the second baby girl born to Jeff and Phyllis. She was born on April 9, 1911. She attended Elwood and Hale County Training School. Later, she moved to Tuscaloosa to work and complete her education. Here she met and married John Herbert Cobb in December, 1929. To this union was born two daughters: Willa Cobb Western and Geraldine Cobb Martin. Her husband, John died November 21, 1950. Later she met and married Rev. I.C. Littlepage in 1952. Aunt Annie has two grandchildren and is the only living child of Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Phyllis.
Charlie "Man" Collins - Charlie was the ninth child, born on April 11, 1913. At an early age he confessed Christ and joined Elmwood A.M.E. Zion Church. After a whirlwind courtship with Nora Harris, they married. This young couple was blessed with three children, Annie Earl, Charlie Jr., and Mary Lois. Charlie moved his family to Tuscaloosa and began a career in construction, where he worked diligently to provide for his family. After moving to Tuscaloosa he joined Bailey Tabernacle CME Church and was a dedicated member. Charlie later married for a second time to Elester Thomas. The exact date of death is not known.
James "Bay" Collins - James was born on June 17, 1920, making him the tenth child in the Collins clan. During his early years the Collins relocated to Greensboro, AL. As a teenager, he met and married Francis Peterson. The couple later moved to Salem, AL and had six children; Joe Lewis, Ethel Lee, Raymond, Cleveland, Mary Neal, and Robert Lee. Uncle James also had an older son Barnie Collins. On April 26, 1957 James passed away.
Earnest "Jack" Collins - Earnest was the last child born to Phyllis and Jeff. He was born in Akron, AL on February 3, 1921. He joined the military in 1940 received and honorable discharge. During his time in the military he married Anna Dinah Nixon. They were blessed with one daughter, Ruthye Mae. He and Anna moved to Tuscaloosa, AL. where he worked at Central Foundry for eight years. Later in 1958 he moved his family to Bessemer, AL. There he worked at Bristol Steel for 28 years until his retirement. Earnest departed this life July 22, 1996.
