Grumman F6F Hellcat
The Hellcat replaced the F4F Wildcat which was outdated and not as agile as the more manuverable Mitsubish Zero. During the last three years of the war the Hellcat was the main fighter for the U.S. Navy. It was rugged, dependable, and had the performance to match or beat the Japanese fighters that it came up against in the skies over the Pacific and later on Japan itself.
