Fairey Battle
Elegant single-engined monoplane bomber. The Battle was too big an aircraft to be powered by a single Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and battles in France (as "Advanced Air Striking Force") in May 1940 it was quickly demonstrated to be woefully vulnerable. The concept of this single-engined bomber was outdated. After 1940 only used in Canada and Australia as trainer and target tug
