Fairey Albacore
To replace the obsolete Swordfish biplane the RN ordered another biplane, the Albacore. The Albacore had refinements, such as an enclosed cockpit and better streamlining; but it was obsolete when it entered service and lacked the qualities that had made the Swordfish successful. It was retired before the Swordfish.
In Canada, the open cockpits of some Swordfish were fitted with sliding hoods for more comfortable winter operations.
