Wednesday, May 12, 2004. Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts. Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson, Gary Endsley of Atlanta, and Dorothy Metzler of Longview.
Location: The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).
Weather Conditions: The morning low temperature was around 68º F, and the afternoon high was approximately 74º F, with a light breeze, under cloudy, overcast skies.
Number of Nets: Nine (9)
Time: Nets were set up between 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. and closed between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m.
Next Banding Date: We plan to band again on Wednesday, May 19. That will be our last banding session of the season. We will resume banding activities next September or October. Mann of Longview, Gail Masters of Karnack, Debbie Shaw of Caddo Lake, John and Renee McCullough of Uncertain, John V. Talbert of Seguin, Joann and Wes Hodges of Uncertain, and Dorothy Metzler of Longview.
Weather Conditions: The morning low temperature was around 68º F, and the afternoon high was 86º F, with a light breeze, under sunny to partly-cloudy skies.
Number of Nets: Twelve (12)
Time: Nets were set up between 8:30 and 9:40 a.m. and closed around 2:00 p.m.
Special Note: We retrapped a cardinal that was originally banded as a Hatch-Year Female on the second day of banding at Tom's farm (in 1996), so it is 8 years old this summer!
