MSESL Trophy back where it belongs....The 2011 MSESL Champion Motor Pool Renegades
BACK ON TOP!!!
BISONS WIN 6TH LEAGUE TITLE AND FIRST SINCE '07

John Megan, Ben Gunther, Al Miller, Brett Loosian and John Roche celebrate a 6th Motor Pool title at Sweetwater TavernOctober 3, 2011....The Motor Renegades are champs once again; nearly 4 years to the day of their last title triumph which also came against the Bridge Rebels back in October of 2007. For the second straight game, the Bisons relied on the nifty arcs of post season veteran Al "The Natural" Miller, rock solid defense, especially in the late innings of both final games and timely hitting to subdue the high scoring Rebels and clinch the team's 6th MSESL title. The Bison win also ended Rebel hopes for a 3-peat, a feat they were trying to accomplish for the first time since the Renegades won three straight titles between 2005 and 2007. Motor Pool now has won all 6 of their titles at the Common and all have been by sweeps with 2 each over FHWA, Highway Structures and the Bridge Rebels. The Bisons now have regained a playoff edge of 4-3 against their arch rivals and ended a 2 year finals losing streak to the Rebels.

The Bisons won their 2011 title with a bit of a different style than the five championships won between 2002-2007. Unlike those titles, this one was won primarily with good pitching and defense. The Bisons did not score more than 15 runs in any of their three post season games, but gave up just a total of 26 runs for an average of just 8.67 per game, pretty impressive numbers especially considering the type of lineup the Bridge Rebels can put on the field. Like the 2007 series against Bridge, both games were well played, exciting and up for grabs in the late innings. Each contest saw the Renegades jump out to early commanding leads; 9-2 in Game 1 and 9-1 In Game 2; before the Rebels rallied to make the finish of each game a nail biter at the end. Both games were also similar in that each one ended with dramatic fielding plays. The Bisons, clinging to a 2-run lead in the top of the 7th of the series opener with the tying run on base with just one out, ended the game when second baseman John Roche caught an Andy Haas rocket and threw to first baseman Scott Brown to double off the runner for the game's final out. In the 7th inning of Game 2, after the Rebels had pulled within 15-13 with a two out 2-run homer, second baseman John Megan ended any hopes of a dramatic Rebel finish when he made a terrific over the shoulder running catch in short right field. Two great games, two fantastic finishes. Congratulations to everyone for a great 2011 season; a season that ended with a 6th Bison title and another Sweetwater championship celebration!!!
