*The next AUSPCR meeting will be held on Monday
October 11 - meet in front of the SIS building at
6:30pm*

This AUSPCR meeting was extremely productive and we
have a LOT of events planned for the next few months -
be on the lookout for further messages on the
listserv.  We're already off to a fantastic beginning
but of course could always use input from anyone in
the IPCR community.

1. Faculty Talk: We are planning a series of informal
Faculty Talks give students and faculty a chance to
interact outside of the classroom and learn about the
faculty as conflict resolution practitioners.
Professor Said is going to lead the first one on
October 15 at 5pm, location TBA. Professors Salla,
Abu-Nimer, Hammer and Smith will be continuing the
talks throughout the course of the school year. Lynne
is coordinating this event so if anyone has
suggestions or questions, contact ylm23@yahoo.com.

2. A trip to Philly is being planned to meet up with
the March for Economic Justice some time the weekend
of October 15-16.  This would be a one-night trip. In
conjunction with the March, The Movement is sponsoring
a blanket drive. The Movement is a recently formed
social justice organization that has been spearheaded
by undergrads and which has made contact with several
AUSPCR members about combining efforts with us on many
fronts.  Matt Bowles is the contact person for this
trip and blanket drive, and you can contact him at
tbowles106@aol.com

3. A group of AU students are planning to participate
in the annual SOA protest in November, and we
discussed the possibility of also attending.  During
the week prior to the event The Movement is planning a
series of information sessions.  We also discussed the
importance of providing a forum for an open discussion
on the issue, with both SOA supporters and detractors
having the opportunity to address AU students. Details
are currently being arranged - The Movement had a
meeting at 5:45pm Thursday night. Val, Karl and Matt
will work to coordinate activities with them.

4. The Committee for Peace Generation to Generation
conference is being held in St. Paul MN the weekend of
October 29-31. Registration is $30 for students. Matt
Bowles is also heading up this activity.  See his
e-mail from the IPCR listserv for more information.

5. The faculty search is underway and everything is
proceeding smoothly.  The first meetings have been
held to review procedure and set goals, and the
committee is currently reading applications and
discussions on the applicants begin in the next couple
of weeks.  We seem to have a strong pool of junior
candidates, however there are some questions as to the
number of senior level candidates and the timeline.

6. Budget:  AUSPCR will have $2700 for the year to
fund events, sponsor conference attendance, etc. Rosie
and Saji are working together to be sure we stay
within our budget and follow correct procedure, etc.
So if anyone hasn't been to a meeting and has
suggestions of things we can do ? come to a meeting!!
