Associate/Program Coordinator The Association of the United States Army (AUSA)
is beginning a new project on the Role of American Military Power (RAMP). The
Project will examine the changing international and strategic environment and
develop a better understanding of what these changes will mean for the U.S.
military in general and for the U.S. Army in particular. The project will have
a three-year life and a three-fold purpose: first, to be a source of original
ideas and analysis of important defense issues in the service of the AUSA membership,
senior Army leadership, and defense decision-makers. Second, to provide a convening
forum for the best military writing and thinking on these issues and to provide
an outlet for this work in the defense and foreign policy communities in Washington,
D.C., and beyond. Third, to provide an institutionalized link that connects
the major centers of Army intellectual activity, including the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point, the Army Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth,
the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, and the National Defense University.
RAMP has the following available positions: Director of Communications Responsibilities:
The position requires a creative individual with an interest in public relations
and a background in international affairs. The Director will be responsible
for the promotion of Project publications and programs and developing a dissemination
strategy for the ideas and publications of the Project. The Director will manage
press and media relations and coordinate speaking engagements for advisory council
members, senior staff, and authors domestically and abroad. Requirements: Master's
Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Journalism, or a related
field.Must be able to handle multiple tasks while working independently and
meet deadlines; critical thinking and excellent attention to detail a must.
One to two years of experience in a communications-related position preferred.
Program Associate/Research Coordinator Responsibilities: The position requires
a responsible person who is able to assume a variety of research, program, editorial,
and administrative duties. Specific responsibilities include: coordinating staff
research efforts to support project publications and outreach efforts; supervising
the research work of other program associates and project interns; drafting
Op-ed pieces, media advisories and information summaries to support dissemination
of Project products and events; rapporteuring and preparing summaries for meetings
as directed by the executive director; assisting program coordinator with Project
products; assisting meeting coordinator to organize and conduct professional
conferences and meetings. Requirements: Master's degree in International Relations
or related field and prior practical experience. The individual must have good
judgment in setting priorities, be able to work independently, and have excellent
interpersonal and organizational skills. Applicant must also be a problem solver
and have a mastery of detail; and be able to handle many projects simultaneously.
Program Associate/Program Coordinator Responsibilities: The position requires
a responsible person who is able to assume a variety of program, editorial,
research, and administrative duties. Specific responsibilities include: assisting
the senior staff in coordinating research projects and program activities, such
as directly supervising the review process and coordinating with readers, authors,
and project staff to ensure high quality, timely reviews and revisions; assisting
the executive director in development of project schedules; conducting research
and literature searches using library resources, Lexis/Nexis, and the Internet;
drafting Op-ed pieces, media advisories and information summaries to support
dissemination of Project products and events; assisting with distribution of
materials for conferences and meetings and serving as back-up rapporteur Project
meetings. Requirements: Master's degree in International Relations or related
field and prior practical experience. The individual must have good judgment
in setting priorities, be able to work independently, and have excellent interpersonal
and organizational skills. Applicant must also be a problem solver and have
