Dear Colleagues in Peace Studies:

Happy to share this infromation about our Student Conference.....

Enclosed you will find the "Call for Papers" and other important
information related to Notre Dame's annual all student peace conference.
This year's conference, called "2000 Roads to Peace," will be hosted this
year on Saturday, April 1, at the Hesburgh Center for International Studies
on our campus.

We recognise that this conference does fall on the same weekend as the
Peace Studies Association meetings in Austin, Texas.  For this scheduling
difficulty we apologize.  However, the date was selected in part due to the
extremely positive benefit derived from pairing our conference with a major
regional symposium to be held here at Notre Dame on the previous day,
Friday March 31. This symposium, "Averting Nuclear Anarchy: The Current
Crisis in Arms Control," will comprise a stellar array of expert, most
especially our closing keynote speaker Joseph Rotblat, founder and
President of Pugwash Conferences who in that role won the Nobel Peace Prize
in 1995.  (For further information on this conference, contact George Lopez
at George.A.Lopez.1@nd.edu.)

This unique situation in the Midwest permits us two successive days of
outstanding opportunities for peace studies students and all faculty and
students interested in peace: a day of intense investigation of the current
dilemma in nuclear arms development with some of the world's most foremost
experts, and a second day of consideration of the many - 2000! - roads to
peace which are being developed by, with, and for students in the
all-student conference.

So with apologies to those good faculty and students already committed to
the PSA meetings and with a loud "please join us" to the others on your
campus who are not journeying to Austin, we enthusiastically pass along the
enclosed information and look forward to hearing from you promptly!

In peace,

The Student Executive Committee for "2000 Roads to Peace"
Valerie Hickey, Chair of Papers Committee
