Whiter Side of Trash

Whiter Side of Trash is a group comprised of New Paltz, NY musicians of varied bands. Typicially, the lineup hosts Gian Starr, Pete Pidgeon, Shane Furey & Misha Silverman of Whiskey Dick, and mandolin player Dave Ellison. The outfit is often a conglomeration of the five who rarely all perform an entire show together. The emphasis is on fun. Often drunken fun. Whiter Side is an outlet for performing all the tunes we'd really like to be playing but are too embarrassed to do so in our other bands. Whiter Side pops up regularly in and around New Paltz at such venues as Oasis Cafe, Oddessey @ Cabaloosa, McGillicuddy's, and Snug Harbor.

RECENT SHOWS

Friday, May 18, 2001 witnessed the REUNION of Whiter Side Of Trash at Snug Harbor in New Paltz, NY! Whiter Side drew probably their largest crowd as they opened for Whiskey Dick's last show ever! In addition to the traditional members, Whiter Side added the great talents of drummer Hector Beccera. Logjamming opened the show. Pete Pidgeon sat in with Whiskey Dick to help perform their final live tune - an original funk piece that morphed into more of a live techno feel. Whiskey Dick will be changing their name and perhaps changing their lineup in the coming months in wake of the passing of bassist Ivo Shanks. See the Old Setlists Page for the setlist.

Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at Oasis Cafe's Acoustic Open Mic in New Paltz, NY, saw the group's final performane with a pair of tunes including the debut of "Steppin' Razor" by Peter Tosh (sung by Gianny) and the Whiter Side classic - Joe Cocker's "Feelin' Alright." It was guitarist Pete Pidgeon's last night hosting the open mic before his move to Boston. Whiter Side will continue on in New Paltz under the name Humous (but pronounce Hoo-moose). Look for upcoming shows in New Paltz, NY at Oasis Cafe and Snug Harbor.

On Friday, June 9, 2000, Whiter Side headlined Snug Harbor in New Paltz, NY along-side Pete's jazz trio the Pidgeon Piller Project. The show featured Pete's older brother Scott Pidgeon on 12-string and 6-string guitars. This was the first time Pete and Scott had played together on stage in *9* years! The set also included an appearance by members of Legion Of Doom (formerly Cirrhosis) on Bad To the Bone and a few other tunes. The setlist (once deciphered...) will be posted here shortly. Other tunes played include Father Figure (George Michael), Fire On the Mountain (Garcia/Hunter), Lawn Boy (Phish), Sweet Home Alabama (Lynard Skynard), All Night Long (Lionel Richie), Righteous Man (original), Dead or Alive (Bon Jovi), More Than Words (Extreme), To Be With You (Mr. Big), Good & Drunk (original), and many, many more...

On May 10, 2000, Whiter Side made a suprise appearance at the Oasis Cafe in New Paltz, NY for the Wednesday night Acoustic Open Mic Night. On Monday, December 20, 1999, Whiter Side of Trash performed in a benefit for The Salvation Army at Odessey @ Cabaloosa. Whiter Side's set included: Feelin' Alright (Cocker), Mike's Song (Phish) > Black Peter (Garcia/ Hunter), The Thrill Is Gone (King), Reighteous Man (original), and Porch (Pearl Jam).

On Friday, December 10, 1999, Whiter Side of Trash (featuring Gian Starr) made a surprise, last-minute appearance at Oasis Cafe in New Paltz. Gian then jumped back to join for Pearl Jam's "Black." A brief break ensued so Pete could leave for his Groove Merchants gig in Saugerties later that night. The second set was greeted by the Starr/ Ellison duo which included: He Was A Friend of Mine (Dylan), Black Eyed Katy (Phish), Candyman (Garcia/ Hunter), Mississippi Half-Step (Garcia/ Hunter), Dupree's Diamond Blues (Hunter/ Garcia/ Lesh), and Dark Hollow (traditional).
