Two very fun and interesting things you can do on New Moon are (as the title says) smithing and mining. They go hand in hand, as to forge anything you need ore to do it, and the ore can be found in mines, which is where the mining skill comes in handy. Below are handy tables and lists (as well as locations) to help you in your mining and smithing (as well as metalcasting which I am counting in) pursuit.

1. The regailum mine
This mine is located in the northern part of the forest, a bit north of the intersection between radiance falls and the sawmill. It is hidden so I'll leave it to you to find it :). This is the only mine in New Moon where you can find regailum and rubies. Rubies are kinda nice to sell, and are used for mage spells. Regailum is used to forge the mighty serrated dagger. The serrated dagger is a very good weapon, despite judging poorly (when you stab an opponnent is creates a wound which gradually drains hp), and figuring out how to make them is a quest. This mine is the most difficult in the game, as it is dark and out in the middle of no where - not to mention the fact that mine assessment always gives 'every sign of a cave in'. Hog's, torches, and a very high mining skill are all neccessary in these mines - they are not meant for the weak. You can also find lead, iron, rubies, yellow gems, gems, gold and silver ore here in certain places.
2. The Meglosten mine
Biggest mines in the game, the Meglosten mine is 5 floors of mining fun. Lead, iron, gems, oraichlum, onyx, and lodestone can all be mined here, in certain areas. Fairly easy in comparision to the regalium mines. You should make sure your mining level is above 30, as you could risk a cave in. Always bring a torch, and try to use use a 'small pickaxe' from the meglosten equipment store, as the ordinary pickaxe requires 2 hands to be held (making it so you cannot hold a torch at the same time). Most places will not require a torch though, and on the whole, these mines are a pleasure to use. Dwarven miners are numerous here, for those who like to us the mines as an xp gaining place.
3. The Useless mine
Northwards from the farm, this mine is hidden and leads to a locked door. I have yet to find a use for it, and there is nothing to mine. A waste of time for the smithing conneisur.
4. The Chang Wong mine
Located east of tsan in the wonderous city where they speak xuanese. Very big, and many different types of minerals to mine. Will make a list as soon as I can.

1. The League smithy (Heliopolis)
Located 1 n and 3 w from Central Kelish Square, this is the main smithy for occupants of Heliopolis, as well as a place where Leaguers recieve discounted repairs.
2. The Meglosten smithy
Located in the fair town of Meglosten, this smithy is mostly used for the forging of ore taken from the Meglosten mines. You can also buy some fine wares from the resident dwarfess.
3. Stumpy's Forest Smithy
Buried deep in the forest near the RedWood Glade, this is the choice of all forest hunters. Rangers recieve a discount, and Stumpy also sells some fine wares.
4. The League Smithy (Leviatha)
A place where wandering leaguers may stop and repair their weapons and armour.
5. The Army Smithy
Members of the army can enjoy this nice smithy.
6. The Draconian Smithy
Draconians use this for a discount, others would be silly to risk entering the tower for repairs.
7. The College of Twilight Smithy
Finally! A place mages can relax and repair, for cheaper than the regular price. Be sure your a member, or of good alignment first thought.
8. The Island Smithy
Useful if your stuck on the island and need a quick fix. Normally used by players who are keen on hunting the difficult, and often lethal, pirates of the Island
9. The Sectist Smithy
Located deep in the swamps within the confines of the Sectist Tower, it is of apparent use only to Sectists or those very evil or brave of heart. Discounts for the evil mage, of course.
10. The Leviatha Smithy
A nice place that can be used by all and where useful wares can be purchased.
11. The Smithy East of Tsan
A pain to get to, but is a handy and friendly place located east of tsan on the road to a small village. Wares can be purchased if in need.
12. The Chang Wong Smithy
DragonSpire is a remote, frightning place, and the trip over the mountains can take its toll. A recommended stop on every visit to Dragonspire. As soon as the mines are open, this should be of even more help.
13. Hidden Smithy
This Smithy is located far into the depths of the forest near Radiance Falls, and is hidden very cleverly. Can be used for repairing, but most of the time is used for forging ore obatined in the Regalium mines.

All Smithy's can be used to forge and repair, while you can metalcast in a foundry (there are two in New Moon one in Meglosten the other in the Chang Wong mines). Skill in these depends on level/bonus in gen.crafts.smithing, gen.crafts.reparing, while mining relies on gen.crafts.mining. A handy way to best succed in these areas is to have a priest cast guidance (a Damaran spell) on you, as guidance will up your bonus and allow you to forge/mine/metalcast things you could otherwise not. Bonuses seem to rely on strength and dexterity, so fighters are more natural at these things than any other guild.

There are many things you can forge and metalcast in New Moon. To forge you need ore found in the mines (see the top of the page), while metalcasting required ingots (iron, brass, silver, pewter, and - silver is used for silver keys). Below is a list of the different things you can find in the mines, and their usage (if any).
