Torrents
File sharing with torrents is easy. BitTorrents have been around for 10 years or more. The torrent file (xxx.torrent)  you initially download is not the actual file but a set of instructions to tell a BitTorrent client which file to download. You give the client a torrent file and the client downloads the video, music or whatever. For more technical information about BitTorrents click HERE.

Setup:
Create a new folder on your desktop and call it "Torrents".
Download and install a BitTorrent client. A client is the program that uses the .torrent to locate and download files. Easy to use clients are listed below.
Find a good source on the web for torrent files. Like Kazaa, you can search for torrent files to download. Paid access sites have no advantage over the free sites. They usually have the same files you can get free somewhere else.
Choose a torrent file and save it to your "Torrents" folder. Pick a torrent with lots of "downloaders, "uploaders", and "seeders" and your download speed will be optimized. Remember that a torrent file is just instructions.
Start the download by adding the torrent file into the client's "download" area. Different clients have different ways of starting downloads with a torrent.
Tell the client where to save the downloaded file. "My Music", "My Videos", My Downloads" are good folders to use.
Go. Downloading will start automatically. Download speeds depend on many factors but you should pick a torrent file with a lot of "uploaders", downloaders" and "seeders". The source and the client both give you current info on the status of the file you want.
Hints: Don't get greedy. Share. Broadband connections have plenty of bandwidth for both uploading and downloading. Let the client manage your files and you will get maximum speed. Your download speed will increase if you are sharing several files.
Some downloaded files will be compressed into .zip, .rar, .ace, or other compressed formats. Windows can extract .zip files (right-click the file, choose "extract all"). Once the compressed file is extracted it can be deleted to save hard drive space. The extracted files are your final product. It seems like a lot of work, but you can download at lightning speed and the files you get are super high quality.

BitTorrent Clients:  The program you need to download files. These clients can't search or play music, only manage
uploading and downloading with the .torrent files you got somewhere else.

Azureus - FREE
One of the easiest to use. It has a user screen similar to Kazaa and others. Drag and drop .torrent files into the big "download" area and it will start automatically. Manages multiple uploads and downloads. Gives good stats on file progress, speed, numbers of peers connected and more. Azureus uses Java to operate. Also download the latest version of Java and plugins offered with the Azureus download.

BitPump by AnalogX - FREE
Very small program, uses very little of your system resources to operate. Read the readme file that comes with it for help. Very fast speeds.

Extract Now - FREE
The files you download from other users are often in a compressed format. ExtractNow is a small, easy to use utility for extracting  compressed files. Will do .zip, .rar, .ace and many more. Go to "setup" to choose a destination folder for the extracted files. Drag and drop compressed files into the box and start. Easy.

Sources for BitTorrent files:  These have huge file libraries and are free to use. These are just .torrent files to use to download the real file using the client. You can still download a torrent file even if the actual file shows as unavailable. You can save a .torrent file and use it anytime.
