AGED RESIDENT LAID TO REST ON MONDAY

          Lorenz Jacobsen, an aged resident of west Dysart, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 1925, at the home of his son, John Jacobsen southwest of town at the advanced age of 73 years, 3 months and 11 days. Mr. Jacobsen had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach which was the cause of his death.
          Lorenz Jacobsen was born June 7th, 1852, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. At the age of 21 years he came to America and after a brief time settled in Scott county. In 1875 he was united in marriage to Anna Schmidt, five children being born to this union. For a time the family resided in Shelby county, Iowa, and in 1877 they came to Tama county, taking up their home on a farm, where they resided until 1909, when Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen retired and moved to Dysart. Mrs. Jacobsen passed away Nov. 26th, 1912. Following her death Mr. Jacobsen secured a housekeeper who remained with him for a period of nine years. The past three years he had lived alone. Owing to his failing health, some five weeks ago he was removed to the home of his son, where death relieved his sufferings at 6 a.m. Saturday.
          Mr. Jacobsen is survived by sons and one daughter: John, of Clark township, William of Oneida township and Mrs. Joe Wiebecke of Oneida, nine grand children, other relatives and many friends.
          Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church in Dysart Monday afternoon at two o'clock, being in charge of the pastor, Rev. E. Grosz. Interment was made by the side of his wife in the family lot in the Dysart cemetery.


From Hollingstedt, S.- H. church records, Lorenz was baptized on Jun 18, 1852 (born Jun 7, 1852). His sponsors were Carsten Gottburg, Hans Freiberg, and Margaretha Peper. His parents were living in near-by Ellingstedt.

Death of Mrs. L. Jacobsen

          Dysart Reporter: "Died: At her home in Dysart, Saturday morning, November 25th, Mrs. Anna Jacobsen, aged sixty-one years. Deceased had been seriously sick of stomach disease for several months and her death was not unexpected, but the call was sudden at last, a turn for the worse becoming apparent only several days previous to her demise. Anna Schmidt was born near Schlesig, Germany, February 18, 1850. She came to America in 1874, and was married to Lorenz Jacobsen at Davenport in 1875. With her husband she came to Tama county in 1877, settling on the old homestead in Oneida township. Here they lived and raised a family of three children to manhood and womanhood. The children are Mrs. Joseph Wiebbecke and John and Will Jacobsen, all of Oneida township, who with their father are left to mourn the death of a good wife and mother. In the spring of 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen bought a nice home in Dysart, and were accounted among our best citizens. Her death is sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church Monday, at 1 p.m., Rev. Henry Christiansen conducting the services. The attendance was about the largest ever seen at a funeral in Dysart. Interment was made in the Dysart cemetery.
          Relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Thede, of Holstein, Ida county; Messrs. Ralph Sierk and Peter Engel, of Garwin: Hans Frahm, of Gladbrook: Mr. and Mrs. John Wulf, of Traer.
