Error: " The Print Spooler or one of its dependencies is not available. "

This error occurs when the lexbce server has been stopped and cannot be restarted. To verify that this is the problem:

  • Go to Start, Control Panels, Administrative Tools, Services.

  • Right click on the print spooler and select Properties.

  • Click on Dependencies to view a list of all system components that the print spooler depends on.

  • Under Services, go to each of these dependencies and check the properties. Ensure that the Startup type is set to Automatic, and the Service status is set to Started.

  • If one of the other services cannot be restarted, check the following document: Error: " The Print Spooler is marked for deletion "

  • If the lexbce server is stopped and cannot be restarted, follow the instructions below under 'Extracting the lexbces.exe file'.

Extracting the  lexbces.exe file:

  • Go to Start, Search, All files and folders, type in lexbces.* and search the (C:) hard drive for this file. Delete any instances you find and then empty the recycle bin.

  • The file lexbces.ex_ needs to be extracted from the CD-ROM. To find the correct path for this file, go to Start, Search, All files and folders, type in lexbces.* and search the CD-ROM. Take note of the correct path for this file. (See the table below for a list of the correct paths to the file.)

  •  Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.

  • Type cd\ and press ENTER.

  • Type cd windows and press ENTER.

  • Type cd system32 and ENTER.

  • In C:\Windows\System32, type the following:
    expand <path\file name> lexbces.exe and press ENTER.
Important: Make sure that you leave a space between the underscore character ( _ ) after the file name and lexbces.exe. For example,
    expand D:\Drivers\Win_2000\lexbces.ex_ lexbces.exe.
The file will be extracted from the CD-ROM drive to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Uninstalling the lexbces.exe file:

When this file has been extracted, it must be properly uninstalled from the system while you are still at the command prompt:

  • Type lexbces -u and press ENTER.

  • You will receive confirmation that the file has been removed and that you have to delete one other lexbces.exe file manually. See the image below.
Delete the file lexbces.exe from C:\Windows\System32. (Use the Search option to find the file.)

  • Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

  • Right click on the Print Spooler.

  • Go to Properties and click on Start.

  • Click on Apply and then OK.

  • Ensure that the printer driver is completely uninstalled.

  • Restart the PC.

  • Reinstall the printer driver.
