Although it was released quite awhile back, I only recently discovered Evangelion, through the benign influence of a friend and neighbour of mine. Very soon I was hooked, and I devoured each episode with increasing relish, holing up late at night at my friend's house in a fiery drive to see the whole story as soon as possible. And lo and behold one day I did reach the last episodes - and like many I wound up scratching my head. So I went and saw the movie - and had the same reaction, plus a shot of depression to boot. As a work of art I have it was indeed quite an achievement, but as a story well, I felt a bit short changed. First because I had a host of questions that never quite got answered - in part because of the wonderful depth of the show, but also in part because towards the end, it was less of a story and more of a self-introspection. Second, I had become quite fond of the characters and not only did I think they deserved more than that, I also wanted to see more of them. These two factors lead to both my constant search for EVA Fanfics, and my own little on-site fanfic here. EVANGELION: The Mark of Cain, is my way of trying to address those two factors above. My questions on what exactly the Angels were, who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls and the uncertainty regarding the 2nd Angel gave me a jumping off point to try out a character who would make everything fit closer together, as well as allowing me to explore new areas. In the process, my desire to see more of Shinji, Asuka, Rei and the rest would come true as well. That cast has a long way to go before we run out of stories to tell about them! :)
