Blackpool TowerBlackpool Tower

Blackpool is well known for its Tower, a landmark visible for miles around. It is one of the town's premier tourist attractions at a height of 518 feet and is made of 2,493 tons of steel. The foundation stone was laid on 29th September 1891 and was opened on the 14th May 1894. Visitors may take the lift to the top of the tower for a panoramic spectacle of Blackpool or gaze far out into the Irish Sea.

Open every weekend throughout the year, Easter weekend to early November everyday. Open from 10am. Tickets for admission to the Tower may be purchased from the Hotel at discounted prices.

Pleasure Beach Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is Britain's top free tourist attraction, as listed by the English Tourist Board, and has annually welcomed up to 10 million visitors. For a fun forest of amusements, "Pleasure Beach" is tops. The Big One roller coaster which is the longest and fastest in the world plus 10 other roller coasters including the only twin track version in Europe. Opened in 1997 the Playstation which shoots up 200' in the air at 80 mph then drops you down to almost ground level, followed in 2000 by Valhalla a new white knuckle ride. sealife Sea life Centre

The Sea life Centre has more than 30 displays which offer close encounters with a variety of marine life ranging from the humble shrimp up to sharks. The centre piece of the centre is the shark display which takes the form of a tunnel through which you can observe the occupants or perhaps it is them observing us.

The three piers

There are three piers in Blackpool, all offering something different. The South Pier was completed in 1893 and for the sake of visitors, it is the one located nearest to the Pleasure Beach end of the promenade. It has an amusement arcade and a nightclub. On Central Pier, there is a mini fun park and an amusement arcade. North Pier is the oldest of the three Blackpool piers and was opened in 1863. It has a theatre, with shows starring famous entertainers.

Visitors to Blackpool (the first town in England to "go electric") in the September to November period will be able to see the 'Illuminations'. During these months the whole of The Golden Mile (including the tower) lights up with displays and colourful images. The illuminations are about six miles in length and stretch from Starr Gate (near the Pleasure Beach) down to Bispham. It consists of brightly illuminated displays, some animated. There are also overhead displays, the Tower is fully lit up, illuminated trams and a host of other attractions. Each year sees alterations and additions.

Within easy reach of Blackpool are the cities of Manchester and Liverpool. Also the scenic areas of the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, home of a number of TV Series also the Yorkshire Wolds. Closer to Blackpool are the Forest of Bowland and the Ribble Valley. Local coach companies have regular trips to the above.
