IRC aka Internet Relay Chat

I discovered IRC about 3 years ago. I quickly became addicted and spent many hours chatting online. I picked up on how most of the programs worked and how the IRC networks worked.

I op'ed (channel operator) in a room or two on Webmaster and quickly found myself being sought out to give help to others in using nickserv, chanserv and the irc chat clients mIRC and pIRCh. I was even approached by an IRCop on Webmaster and asked if I was interested in becoming an IRCop. He informed me that it would take some time learning all the things necessary to become an IRCop. At the time, I was busy with op'ing a few channels so I declined and asked for a raincheck.

I have since dropped out of that particular group of channels I was op'ing and discovered the computer game Diablo. When you want to play with others around the world, you log onto Battlenet and can chat with others and then go to a game together. Well, this chat is basically just like IRC chat and I found myself chatting for hours in a channel called #justus where the regulars from alt.games.diablo hang out.

I got tired of my system lagging from having the Diablo disk in, which was the only way I knew how to connect to Battlenet, so off I went to find a program to chat on Battlenet without the Diablo cd. Someone pointed me in the direction of Battlechat which worked well, but was lacking in some areas for us regular chat junkies.

After trying multiple chat programs that just didn't measure up, a good friend named SubSpace made a chat client/op holder for our channel called Subbot. I pointed him to pIRCh as a basis of some of the things I would like to see coded into the bot. Now I have a very user friendly, irc-addict type program to chat on battlenet with. I can't thank Sub enough for all the time and energy that he has put into that program just because I keep asking for more. You can find his battlenet chat program here.
