Mr Ulema Send Us Your Views Please

In all our issues of Signs Magazine we request our readers to write in with their views or comment. This is in keeping with the traditions of the Messengers of god who were not afraid to convey the revealed message to the world and listen to other people. It is also the correct Islamic tradition to be able to face up to challenges and to answer all questions. We do not seek to expound our views by shouting down others, by forcefully muzzling different opinions, banning (or burning) books or by censoring information – all these being the favourite tools of the Ulema.

As is evident in our pages, we do receive letters and comments from readers including "Islamic" organisations. However we have not yet received any letters from any Ulema or Ulema organisations. We are given to understand that some Ulema do criticise Signs but only behind closed doors. Quite typical ulema behaviour.

Considering that Signs has exposed the ulema’s wrongdoing, their silence is either an acknowledgement of guilt, an inability to articulate clearly against the verses of the Quran or a mixture of both.

The Ulema are only able to speak when among themselves. They cannot thrive outside their own bubble environment. For example when they are shown clear verses from the Quran, they turn tail and run.

Nevertheless, Signs welcomes any views the Ulema may seek to express in our Magazine. We should not be afraid of discussion or answering questions. That would be in keeping with the true sunnah of the Prophets.
