My 3rd Round Robin book was "A Bone From A Dry Sea", by Peter Dickinson. What a treasure this was! I never in a million years would have picked up this book to read on my own! (this is why the Round Robin is such a great idea!) The book tells two stories at once, switching with each chapter. The one story is about a colony of Aquatic Apes ( or supposedly early humans? ) and their life on our planet around 4.5 million years ago. (apparently there IS some scientific data exploring this possibility?) The other story takes place in current time and is about an archealogical dig. NEITHER of these subjects are of ANY interst to me. None. But the book - once I got into it - was a very interesting read! Nothing quite like "The Clan of the Cave Bear" series or anything like that -- but still, quite intersting! A fun story. I give it 4 Paws! Maybe even 4.5!!!

The 2nd book I read in the Round Robin was "Dances With Wolves", by Michael Blake. I had seen this movie years ago when it furst came out. I didn't like it! But oh my goodness! I LOVED the book! From the moment Lieutenant Dunbar is introduced (in the first sentence of the story) I was hooked! He is a furry charismatic fella who just makes you want to know more about him, and what makes him tick. When he heads out west looking for a little "something" in his life, and hoping he find it with his newly assigned unit, you go along hoping he find it too! What he finds is some Comanche indians, a lady, and a way of life he never knew existed. He falls in love with it all - and makes the reader fall too! Just a truly GREEEEEEEAT story! Kevin Costner killed it! I give the book 5 Paws!!!

The first book that I read in the 2003 Round Robin was "The Thunder of Justice" by Ted & Maureen Flynn. It was a furry interesting book. I found the first part a bit "gloom & doomish", but soon found myself interested in the history and the prophecies. It chronicles the decay of humanity and the Blessed Mary's attempts to bring the flock back into the fold before the second coming. Through her "messages" it brings to light the possibility of the prophecies as "fact", in regards to AIDS, war, etc. And though the book was written in 1993, I found myself at times wondering if the troubles with the Catholic Church today, and our conflicts with Iraq and Al-Queda... if a lot of that hasn't been "forecast" too.... It's not a "page turner", but it's certainly a worthwhile read. I give this book 3.5 paws!
