What is it like to be a Christian? Some think that becoming a Christian automatically makes life easier. Well, it does and doesn't. We will face hard times no matter if we are a Christian or not. So why do preachers and Christians tell us that Jesus will bring peace into our lives? Jesus even mentions to Christians in Matthew 10:22, that, "everyone will hate you because of your allegiance to me." Jesus also teaches the Christian life will be hard in Matthew 16:24, "If any of your wants to be my follower, you must put aside selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me." Apostle Paul also writes that Christians will suffer in Romans 8:17, "And since we are his children, we will share his treasures-for everything God gives to his Son, Christ, is ours too. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering." So why suffer for Christ? Others suffer from a large number of other problems. Well, because, first of all, Christ is our Savior and we need to follow and try to be like Him. That also includes suffering with Him. He did give us the free gift of eternal life by dying on the Cross for us. Secondly, Jesus promises us the He'll give us something that will give us something that drugs, alcohol, success, or sex could never give us. Christ promises to provide us with everlasting peace, strength, hope and rest! Well, so! You say your body, physically and mentally is tired and without peace! Did He help me at all, you ask. Before you start drawing conclusions, read, Matthew 11:28-29, "Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke first perfectly, and the burden I give you is light." See, Jesus promises rest for the soul, not the body. But I guarantee you once you have strength, peace, rest and comfort in your soul, given to you by Christ, your tired and weary body will once again be rejuvenated!
