The Slayers

Along with Fushigi Yugi, Slayers is one of my favorite anime series.  Although the animation can't quite compete with Fushigi Yugi, the characters are fairly original, and the plots every bit as good. Slayers begins with the spunky sorceress Linna Inverse.  In her quest to rob bandit gangs and keep their treasure, Linna encounters a handsome, blond swordsman, Gourry Gabriev.  A superb fighter, Gourry helps rout the bandit gang.  Unfortunately, Gourry is dumber than a rock.  (Every man has some terrible defect.)  He sees Linna's small stature and determines it to be his mission to return this lost child to where she belongs.  Realizing the futility of agruing with someone that stupid, Linna allows Gourry to accompany her.  The journey begins and is interrupted frequently by the introduction of new characters.  Also, several time-outs are called for food.  The perpetually hungry Linna and Gourry eventually meet Zelgadis Greywords and Rezzo the Red Priest.  All in all, there are three Slayers Series. Bad News For Slayers Fans!    If you are missing any Slayers tapes or have yet to get Try, do so right away. Recently, Enoki films acquired the rights to Slayers and are pulling all copies off of shelves in stores every where. That's bad, but unfortunately I have even worse news. Fox will be airing Slayers in the near future. If you saw what they did to Escaflowne I am sure you are just as appalled as I am. I mean, they cut out Hitomi's tarot cards so they wouldn't offend anyone. How are they going to explain that Lina calls on the powers of black magic. The Ragna blade will probably never enter the picture; if it does I can gaurantee the Lord of Nightmares won't be the power behind it. There goes the end of Next. A friend of mine e-mailed them and they stated that they would not be changing much of the Software Sculptors version, but I doubt this as I read the plot summary on their website. It's laughable. The names are different, and the summary is so poorly written, you would think Gourry was the author of that piece of trash. The Utena summary was just as bad. They called Touga, Tommy. Ugh.
