Talbot County, Maryland
16 July 1682
In the name of God Amen, I Philemon Lloyd of Talbot County in
ye Province of Maryland doe make & ordain this my last Will & Testament as
followeth;. Imps. I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my body to
be decently buried at ye discretion of my wife and friends hereafter named.
2. I give unto my son Philemon all my lands upon great Island in
Wye River with all my plantations thereunto belonging to him & his heirs
forever.
3. I give unto my son James all my land att Jucechow in two
tracts containing two thousand acres with ye plantation & housing therunto
belonging to him & his heirs forever.
4. I give unto my daughter Henrietta Maria five hundred acres in
two pattents where John Newman lives with ye plantation thereupon at ye
exipiration of his lease to her & her heirs forever.
5. I give to my daughter Alice six hundred acres of land lying
at ye head of Nye River called Lloyd’s Forrest to her & her heirs forever.
6. I give to my daughter Anna three hundred acres & fifty acres
of land lying at ye head of Nye river called Rosseth? To her & her heirs
forever.
7. I give to my daughter Elizabeth four hundred acres of land
lying at ye head of Nye River called Garland to her & her heirs forever.
8. I give to my daughter Mary one thousand acres of land lying
at ye head of Chester? Called Lloyd’s Downe to her & her heirs forever.
9. I give all other (of) my estate in land now in my possession
or in expectation to my son Edward Lloyd & it is my will & true intent any word
to ye contrary nowithstanding & if my son Philemon should die without issue of
his body lawfully begotten then all of ye above said land upon Island come to my
son Edward & his heirs forever.
10. I will ye plantation where I now dwell with orchards &
gardens & houses thereupon with all ye land thereunto belonging savings ye four
hundred acres to the sole use of my wife Henrietta Marie Loyd during her life
any words to ye contrary to hear ye only my request is case she should be
privales wth marry again & it happens to be a person capable to afford her a
sufficient & comfortable abode or _____? & then before such marriage she release
all her rights to ye said land & plantation unto my son Edward when he shall
arrive at full age.
11. I give to my wife ye furniture of her chambers with ye great
glass & table & stand made of olive wood with a dozen silver spoons.
12. I give to my son Edward ye negro boy Peter & his sister
Sarah Palls children & ye great silver cann.
13. I give to my daughter Henny a girl ___ ____daughter with a
dozen silver spoons.
14. I give to my daughter Mary ye negro girl Penelope wooby’s
daughter with all her issue from ye time of my decease.
15. I give to my daughter-in-law Mrs. Susanna Darnell lately
Bennett all my land in ______ River back of my own purchase from Richard Leake &
what I hold in right of my wife provided shee release my heirs from any English
____? Or tobacco payments due by her father will ye said land to her & her heirs
forever likewise I give her ye great silver plate.
16. I will any & all ye rest of my estate after debts, legacys (
are ) paid & discharged be equally divided between my dear wife & children
receiving for every child she goeth with all.
17. I will my estate to be dewly inventoried presently after my
decease & allowed unto money & if it be secured for my children according to
such rules as are made in & good law of ye county for presavation of orphan
estates as if I had died intestate & if my children be brought up & have means
of education according to ye porportion of their estates in ye sd. Law is
provided.
18. I will ye my children be brought up in the Protestant
Religion & carryed to such church or churches when it is proper & is no other
during their minority & until such years of discretion as my rinder them last
capable to judge what is most ___? To ye good will of Almighty God unto which I
pray of his mercy direct them.
19. I do devise my deare father-in-law Capt. James Neal & good
friend Henry Cousey, James Neal, Junr., & Henry Coursey, Junr. , Mr. William
Tilgham to see this my will preferred & kept from time to time & as often as
they shall see cause & they ____________ of serving my sd. Estate according to
ye said act of assembly to each of whom I leave as a _______? Of & _____?
Confidence I have in them a gold ring of ___?

Codicil:
28 May 1685
My will is that these severally ____ & legacys, alterations &
amendments heretofore mentioned called on _____ _______? To my last Will &
Testament which bears date of seven & twentyth day of May in ye year of Our Lord
one thousand six hundred eighty two.
1. I give unto my son James Lloyd ______? Acres lately bought of
Henry Parker and adjoining to ye sd. Land formerly given him in Tuchahow.
2. I give unto my two daughters Margaret & Jane eight hundred
acres of land called Nimenie & Nimenie’s Adition lying at ye head of Crosekey
Creek lately bought of the said Henry Parker.
3. 3. I will ye fifteenth article in my last will giving several
legacies to Mrs. Susanah Darnell be void & anul’d ( the cause of ye condition
ceasing of an anagremts made between Mr. Jno. Darnell & myself concerning those
lands in Sisifras River doe stand in for & insited of ye plate of ye article
mentioned I give to ye said Mrs. Susannah Darnell a silver watch.
4. 4. Whereas by my last will I left in charge with my overseer
therein named to cause my children to be brought up in ye Protestant Religion
ins whc. Religion I would still have them continue yet least my meaning &
content therein should be mistaken & disorders will not forseen betwine my wife
& overseers aforesaid that I make it my only request to her by all ye
obligations of a loving husband to see my will therein performed & ye said
overseers put her in mind thereof & see God’s will be done.
