Prawn Curry


1. Prawns (small or medium sized) : 500 grams
2. Coconut : 1/2 (grated)
3. Red chillies : 6
4. Coriander seeds : 1 tablespoon
5. Fenugreek seeds : 1/4 teaspoon
6. Peppercorns : 8
7. Turmeric powder : 1/4 teaspoon
8. Tamarind : 1 lemon size ball
9. Oil : 1 tablespoon
10. Onion : 1 (finely chopped)
11. Curry leaves : 2 strands
12. Mustard seeds : 1/4 teaspoon
13. Salt : to taste

Method of Preparation:

Clean and wash the prawns. Roast the coconut,red chillies, coriander seeds and peppercorns till light golden. Add the fenugreek seeds and roast till golden brown. Remove from fire and grind to a fine paste. Take the pulp of 1 lemon size tamarind and keep aside. Heat the oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the finely chopped onion and saute on medium fire till golden brown. Add the prawns, turmeric powder, salt and two cups of water and cook on medium fire till the prawns become tender. Add the ground masala and tamarind pulp and cook on medium fire till the gravy becomes semi-thick. Remove from fire and serve.
