SHELTER POLICIES
Ferret Friends is a no-kill rescue and shelter for ferrets. We take in all ferrets regardless of age, temperament, illness or disability. We are a homebased shelter and try to care for all ferrets residing here as our own.
Ferrets staying with us are given at least two hours or more, as time allows, daily out of cages to exercise and play with us humans. Playtime is given throughout the open space of our home. We do allow intermingling with our cats and other ferrets, depending on the individual ferret. We try to assess what each ferrets personality is like, including does he/she like other animals, other fuzzies, children, favorite treats, etc. This gives us the opportunity to try and match adoptees and adopters. For those with children, we do adopt, but not to the children. Ferrets, as all pets, are an adult responsibility. So ultimately the parent will sign the contract.
All ferrets are given a set of distemper shots, rabies and are altered, unless otherwise noted. This would only happen if the ferret was very young in which case we would take a deposit for the ferret and when it was old enough surgery would be done.
We feed everyone a mixture of foods depending on the ferret's taste and what he/she likes. We use regular kitty litter, not scoopable. Everyone is provided a blanket, hammock and a toy in their cages.
Ferret Friends does provide boarding and are treated the same as all staying with us. They can be fed the same as ours or can be fed provided food (which is recommended, but not necessary). We charge $3.00 a day per ferret. We also ask you to bring proof of vaccinations, list of likes and dislikes, and any other pertinent info.
We have a wonderful vet, at Bear Canyon Pet Clinic, at 8969 East Tanque Verde Road in Tucson, Arizona.
We do take calls for advice and will freely give it to anyone. We are not Veterinarians, so this is limited to general and practical info. If this is a more serious issue, we will try to send you in the right direction.
Donations and sponsorships are always welcome.
