N.C.Kumar:The official Contraband documenter! This guy's been rockin' and rollin' for the last thirty years. The most amazing Jazz and Blues LP collection I've ever seen. Singer, drummer and plays a bit of most musical instruments. He also runs a huge archive of recordings and photographs of practically every session of the Contraband society.Contraband first met Kumar way back in 1989. We were playing a small gig at a neighbouring society, when Kumar and Naveen, two arch Contraband members today, turned up and jammed with us. Soon, I was at Kumar's house checking out his amazing LP collection and it was he who introduced me and all the Contraband guys into Jazz, particularly the music of Miles Davis. We soon started regular sessions at Kumar's place, specially on Thursdays, as it was his day off. Thus started Studio K. One crazy thing this guy would do was to come with a small tape deck to all our sessions and record our playing and at first, I thought it was a terrible waste of tape! Boy, toaday, we all realise the full value of the retention of all that great blues we knocked out for all those years. When we review those recordings today, it feels as though those years were fruitful after all.
Kumar owns a Fender copy fitted with humbuckers and a small Stranger Cube 40 amp, in addition to various recording gear. He also has a fetish for buying and selling all kinds of gear at all times. Kumar lives in Kirkee with his wife Rama and his son Roshan.Guys, call Kumar at his very own personal Studio K. Pune no.(020)581 8353
