JD- The 'All Rounder' of Contraband

JD, a.k.a.Jaideep Narayan, forever the "hero" of Contraband. A man who,in his heyday was a 'filmi hero' type guy! JD could ride horses, swim like crazy, dive, shoot guns, do stunts on his bike,go hiking and camping, have his share of women, you name it! He could sing a Kishore Kumar number with as much dexterity as he would a NRPS tune.I remember, he even won some 'Kishore' contest of sorts, organised by T series in Delhi.Sometimes I wonder if he does all of that now! The only thing that he didn't get into was modelling, although I do remember, he made a feeble attempt at it somewhere down the line. When I met JD in 1987,he used to put up at this crazy place called Rasik Lodge. The Rasik Lodge days were quite crazy. The small room of his was used for nefarious activities unlimited! One would often find myself, JD and other friends curled up, twanging away on his 12 string acoustic, a possession that he treasured very much, and still does,I hope. We'd even had some crazy parties on the rooftop of this lodge, one of which I remember, saw the consumption of 25 bottles of Rum, an almost beaten up lodge owner and a depressed guy who smashed his harmonica by throwing it off the roof in disgust at his inability to remember a tune!
After his folks moved in to Pune from Delhi, complete with Sofu and Litu, the doggies, the action shifted to the terrace of his row house at Kale Park. We'd already put down the Fergie band days and Contraband was very much in existence! Several lovely evenings were spent on his terrace with Kumar, Peter, Samuel, Milind Mullick and the gang, and we were occasionally joined by the Hook guys as well! JD started on his masters in Environmental Science, and having finished it,moved to Canada for further studies! Oho! We have an all-rounder, do we? Back he came, and joined ILFS, and guess where? In the very building I was working in Bombay! Trust JD's luck! It was here that he met Brinda, his soul mate and they got married and lived happily ever after? No! They moved to Canada and started freaking out! Once a member, always a member of Contraband! When he comes down he's still down at the Contraband sessions to jam awhile, and when he's away,we remember his antics and he stays in our hearts, at Contraband.
