For Missing
Couple Fails
A six-hour search yesterday from
Hawaii Kai to Makapua Lookout and
on Sand Island failed to find any
trace of a missing 73-year-old man
and his 60-year-old bride to be.
The land, sea and air search for
Alfred A.De Mattos of 915 Koae St.
and Mrs. Lucy Pacheco of 1218
Luawai St., involved 54 men from
the Fire and Police Departments.
Windward Volunteer Rescue Squad
and the Civil Air Patrol.
De Mattos and Mrs. Pacheco
disappeared Dec. 9 after leaving
for a drive. His son last month
offered a $1,000 reward for
information on what happened to
them. Coordinator of the effort.
radio commentator Jimmy Walker,
said the search would continue on
other weekends.
"We looked everywhere it was
possible to go off the road.
"Walker said. It had been
speculated the missing persons
might have been in an accident.
Fire Chief Richard Young was on
the scene, as was deputy Chief
Abraham Kuni. Assistant Fire Chief
Christian Ellis was in charge of
the search.
Police Lt. R. Murakami and
Detective Roy Higa of the missing
persons bureau were also there.
Maj. Stan Harter was in charge of
the CAP, and Capt. Richard Davis
of the Windward squad.
