This tale begins the Redwall series. It is about a young mouse, Matthias, who grows from a child to an adult, by slaying the evil Cluny. He befriends hares, squirrels, hedgehogs, shrews, and many other species to help him. He eventually kills Asmodeus, the giant Adder and retrieves the sword of the great Martin. He then uses the sword to kill the evil rat Cluny. It is a great book, like all others by Brian Jacques!

This book was written second by Brian Jacques, yet it takes place long before Redwall. It is about how Martin the Warrior, defeats Tsarmina the Wildcat, who cruelly ruled Mossflower, and how he founded Redwall Abbey. He is helped by the CORIM, the Council of Resistance in Mossflower. Martin travels to Salamandastron, an extinct volcano ruled by badgers where his sword is reforged, he then returns to Mossflower and slays the wildcat. Like all Brian Jacques books, it is great!
